BUT WHERE ARE THE PUPPIES FOR SALE?

In answer to the frequent question via e-mails and phone calls ....

I'm sorry, but you'll never see puppies for sale on my website because I don't feel it's appropriate to advertise a living animal for sale as if it were a used car or appliance. I'm not saying every breeder that sells online or through ads is bad, just that for me it's not what I feel comfortable with.

The puppy photos on my website and albums are featured for the benefit of the new families who are waiting for their puppy to be old enough to take home, and for the enjoyment of people who love Chihuahuas. While I'm flattered that seeing the pictures makes you want to own one of my puppies, the pictures are only my way of sharing the joy of the puppies and are not meant as a sales advertisement.

I feel a new puppy needs to be placed in just the right home, so that the family getting the new puppy and the puppy getting a new home are a good match for each other's personalities and lifestyles. One of the benefits of supporting a good breeder is their ability to match the right home to the right pup and making sure the transition goes smoothly and that everyone, including the puppy, is happy.

I'm also a firm believer in laying blame where it should be, and in my opinion a large percentage of the homeless Chihuahuas that end up dying in shelters are not homeless because they were bred by a puppymill or back yard breeder, but because they were bought on impulse by well meaning people who just didn't think out the responsibilities of dog ownership or how to correctly buy a purebred dog. Many people don't realise until after the purchase that having a puppy was not like what they thought it was going to be like. Unable to return the puppy to the back yard breeder/petstore (a responsible breeder will take back a puppy of their breeding at any time for any reason) the person tries to rehome the puppy on their own and that's how the cycle passing of the dog from one home to another starts, until the day it ends up at a shelter, or the luckier ones, in rescue.

By working from a waiting list of preapproved homes I completely eliminate the impulse buyer and therefore increase the chance my puppies will stay in the home where I place them for life. My waiting list also allows me the chance to get to know you, and you me, through mail, phone calls and visits. I value good responsible homes with loving families for my precious puppies. I look for people who want a nice puppy, who support responsible breeders, and who want to keep in touch with me - they become a part of a family if you will. They must really want a Chihuahua - not just any small dog - and above all have a soft loving way about them.

I don't respond to one line e-mails - if you can't put any effort into inquiring about one of my puppies I won't put any effort into replying to your email. If you're looking for a puppy today or even within the next week, then please don't waste your time and mine, because the truth is if you call or email looking for a puppy right now I'd tell you I have nothing available even if I had two or three sitting in front of me that were ready for new homes. The only way to get a puppy from me is to fill out an application, become approved and wait until I feel I have the right puppy for you and that you're right for my puppy.

The wait could be as little as a few months to as long as 2 years depending on just how color/coat/sex/size specific you want your puppy to be - naturally the person wanting a nice little Chihuahua of any color or coat will get a puppy before someone that wants an under three pound, red brindle and white, shortcoat female or some other specific description. I don't breed frequent litters and I don't breed to supply the public demand for Chihuahua puppies.

There aren't a lot of really good Chihuahua breeders out there but there are a lot of people looking for Chihuahuas, so my goal is to only place my puppies in the very best home possible. If you already have a Blueboy's puppy then you should feel honored because that means I think you are the best of the best and I thank you for giving one of my puppies such a great home!

I'm sorry, but I don't ship my puppies.

If you are interested in filling out an application, becoming approved for one of my puppies and being added to my waiting list, please feel free to email me and tell me a little about yourself, and request an application and I'll gladly send one to you. I'll also be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Thank You,
Leslie Riley
